Journal 6: Style

Throughout the course of this project, one thing that has been bothering me is whether or not I have a particular style. This is something I touched upon lightly last year, but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about more and more as I’ve drawn a lot this summer. I feel like I don’t, and if I do, and it’s something that others can detect, it’s not something that I clearly see. I feel kind of lost in a way in the sense that I just jump around from medium to medium and various styles/techniques and I feel like nothing I’ve worked on looks distinctively “mine”. Since I’ve been drawing a lot I’ve noticed that each piece tends to be something completely different from another piece, and while I do enjoy trying out all these new things, I feel like I should settle with something that I think feels right. I know it’s probably not anything that can be forced, but I feel like most artists have a distinctive style they stick to and can easily be identifiable whereas I’m all over the place. This isn’t necessarily a concrete goal, but I hope as I create more art through this project, it can guide me towards or help me develop a particular style.
