For this SDA, I really wanted to do something involving texture. Originally, I wanted to digitally paint a moth since they have areas that are fuzzy and their wings are kind of speckled, so I could play around with various textures that I’m not really familiar with since I usually do a lot of portraits. However, I didn’t like how the moth painting looked, so I decided to redo it, but this time I would use acrylic paint on one of the wooden blocks. I really wanted it to be kind of fluid and to flow well, but also loose and with the various textures clearly distinguishable. I didn’t like how that turned out as well so I decided to do something else.
What I ended up doing was a painting of the sea, but specifically where it meets land. I decided to use the paint knives that I got last year since I still hadn’t really used them. I really wanted to focus on the area where the water and land would meet and try to recreate the frothiness of the waves and sea foam. The piece is very different from anything that I’ve done before and I’m still not sure if I like it or not.
